- September 15, 2008 7:00pm - Lightroom 2.0 - New Local Adjustment Tools, and Other Goodies, presented by Steve Bye
With Adobe's late-July release of Lightroom 2.0, I find I'm spending almost all my time in Lightroom. It's new local adjustment tools are quicker and easier to use than Photoshop's adjustment layers with layer masks. And it's improved printing capabilities provide a whole new printing paradigm. This lecture/demonstration will include many examples of optimizing images using Lightroom's adjustment tools. I'll also show why you might want to use Lightroom to print your images, even if some of their optimization work is done in Photoshop.
Steve Bye - Steve was the Digital Lab Manager at the Minnesota Center for Photography, where he taught Photoshop, Lightroom, and Fine Art Printing until its recent closure. He is now teaching these courses at the Minneapolis Photo Center's new adult education program. Steve is an Adobe Certified Instructor in Photoshop.
- October 20, 2008 7:00pm - Using your camera and Photoshop to shoot and to manually blend images to achieve a single, wide dynamic-range photo, presented by Sonny Taylor
Often we find ourselves with a bright sky or harsh shadows; and have to shoot hand-held, without tripod, flash, diffuser etc.
We will illustrate and simplify camera and Photoshop techniques that allow us to shoot and combine multiple images.
In the camera, we use the Histogram, and Auto-Exposure Bracketing for multiple exposures.
Continuing in Photoshop, we will discuss the combination of Bridge, ACR (RAW), the Histogram, Smart Objects, Auto-Align, and Layer Masks, to allow us to blend these images into one, with a wide dynamic range. Also, multiple processing and blending of a single RAW file will be described.
It's much easier than it sounds.
- November 17, 2008 7:00pm - Natural Light Portraiture, finding and using available light, gear for working in low light, light and texture., presented by Shelly Paulson
"I was once asked if I am an available light photographer because I don't know how to use strobes. I had to really search my heart to find the answer, and that answer is no. I am an available light photographer because I enjoy the beauty of natural light and the challenge of working with what light I can find in a given situation. I love the timeless feeling that natural light gives to a photo.
"Working with natural light can be a challenge because it is much less predictable and controllable than using strobes or flashes. I will be showing you how I identify the light I want to work with in a given situation and how I approach those challenges. Once you understand how to use the light that is available to you, you can photograph people just about anywhere."
